Louise Waugh is a painter and printmaker. Her still lives and landscapes have been exhibited throughout the UK and also in America, Spain, Italy and Ireland as well as showing regularly in the R.A. Summer Exhibition.
‘I have painted all my life and continue to do so and celebrate and enjoy the beauty I see in the world, from the landscapes in West Somerset to Bali, Morocco and wherever my travels take me as well as everyday objects and people in my life.
Creating art has always been core to my being, and from my early days when I studied etching in Granada, Spain, I have always taken the path of the artist that defines who I am. Largely self taught having trained as a teacher in Bath, I began exhibiting at 20 and my first exhibition was at the then Bristol Arts Centre where I exhibited large woodcuts and linocuts. My life continued as an artist choosing not to teach and I exhibited both here and abroad over the following years.
I now work in a rural studio in West Somerset painting primarily in oil and acrylic. My practice is to draw and sketch on location as well as painting, and I then return to my studio to bring another dreaming element from my imagination to the work.
The subject matter that interests me are the shapes and movement within a landscape, sometimes with a human element included. I am drawn to Cornwall and the sea, and wild places as well as a recent trip to Italy last summer.’
