After training at Falmouth and a short spell at Spike Island in Bristol, I have lived and worked in Devon. I’ve always responded to changing colours in sunlight and walk every day in my local area. I started printmaking about 20 years ago and now use the reduction method to create layered coloured prints with textures and some elements of monoprinting along the way.
For a long time, I have wanted to create a contemporary view of the countryside and make prints of places I know well. I enjoy going back and back to the same places, noticing changes and appreciating the seasonal rhythms of the countryside. I play with colour and patterns which I hope draws you in to the view. As do many artists I thrive on observing and love that prints can explore a view again and again.
I believe in looking as a meaningful, political, emotional act of agency where ideas and feelings can come together. I think of the countryside as an important part of our contemporary physical environment and something that can be savoured and discussed. I hope you can enjoy my journey into our rural landscape (as much as I enjoy making the prints).
